Hummingbirds
I had the chance to observe Hummingbirds in their natural habitat thanks to my wife mother's Liz.
I became fascinated by them and I wanted to know more so I filmed them with a high speed camera (Phantom high speed 711) borrowed from the lab.
On the right you can see a preview of the behind the scene of the high speed video I am sharing below.
Few facts about Hummingbirds:
They heart beats from 225 times per minute when it’s at rest and more than 1,200 times per minute when it is flying.
They have been clocked at nearly 30 mph in direct flight and more than 45 mph during courtship dives.
They can fly forward, backward, and even upside down.
Research indicates a hummingbird can travel as much as 23 miles in one day.
They are the smallest of all bird species.
They consume about half their body weight in bugs and nectar
They can flap their wings as much as 80 times per second while hovering.
Making them one of the most fascinating bird.
Here are some of the high speed video I took of them at 4000 images per seconds (optimal speed I found after few iterations).
I am more than happy to discuss further about them and share more videos. If you are interested feel free to reach out.
